The crystal structure of the title compound confirms the cis assignment for Z-3-phenyl-2-(trifluoromethyl)prop-2-enoic acid, C₁₀H₇F₃O₂. The two molecules in the asymmetric unit form a hydrogen-bonded dimer but have different conformations. One molecule has the carbonyl oxygen atom cis with respect to the trifluoromethyl group, while the other molecule has the hydroxyl O atom cis to the trifluoromethyl group.
