Crystals of the title compound, C24H20P+.ClO4-, are composed of Ph4P+ cations and ClO4- anions separated by normal van der Waals distances. The P and Cl atoms occupy special positions, of 
(S4) symmetry. In the cation the P-C distance is 1.833 (4) Å and C-P-C angles are 110.25 (13) and 107.9 (2)°. The perchlorate anion is disordered.
