Although the unit cell of tetraphenylphosphonium tetrachloroaluminate was determined by powder diffraction quite some time ago (Scaife, 1970), its three-dimensional structure has not previously been reported. The crystal for the present study was obtained as a by-product of the reaction of Ph4PCN with a diazaphosphoniaaluminatacyclobutane.
