Crystals of the compound DyTa7O19 could be obtained by chemical transport reaction using NH4Cl as the transport agent. The structure was refined in space group P\overline{6}c2. The structure is built up from the double layers of Ta2 polyhedra that may be described as edge-shared pentagonal bipyramids alternating with the layers of [Ta3Dy3O30] rings.
