In the title cocrystal, {[Co(C8H9N5)(C30H28BN6)]ClO4}·[Co(C8H9N5)(C30H27BN6)]·CH3OH·H2O, two independent complexes co-crystallize in the asymmetric unit, together with methanol and water solvent molecules and a perchlorate anion. Each Co2+ ion is five-coordinated by three N atoms from a hydridotris(3,5-methyl­phenyl)borate group and two N atoms from a 2-guanidinobenzimidazolyl (GBI) ligand. In one mol­ecule, GBI binds to Co2+ in the neutral form with perchlorate as counter-ion, whereas in the other mol­ecule, it ligates to Co2+ in the anionic form after deprotonation. The coordination geometry can be best described as distorted trigonal bipyramidal.

Special details top

Geometry. All e.s.d.'s (except the e.s.d. in the dihedral angle between two l.s. planes) are estimated using the full covariance matrix. The cell e.s.d.'s are taken into account individually in the estimation of e.s.d.'s in distances, angles and torsion angles; correlations between e.s.d.'s in cell parameters are only used when they are defined by crystal symmetry. Refinement. Refinement of F2 against ALL reflections. The weighted R-factor wR and goodness of fit S are based on F2, conventional R-factors R are based on F, with F set to zero for negative F2.
