Crystals of the title compound, [Cu(C6H15N3O3)2]Cl2.4H2O, are isotypic with those of the analogous CuII bromide and the corresponding NiII and ZnII bromides [Hegetschweiler, Gramlich, Ghisletta & Samaras (1992). Inorg. Chem. 31, 2341–2346]. The coordination polyhedron of the Cu atom shows a strong Jahn-Teller distortion from octahedral symmetry. The location of all H-atom positions gives a more detailed understanding of the three-dimensional hydrogen-bonding framework in (I) and its related compounds.
