Nonasodium Bis(hexahydroxoaluminate) Trihydroxide Hexahydrate

The Al atoms are six-coordinate and exist as monomeric [Al(OH)₆]^3- anions in the title compound, Na₉[Al(OH)₆]₂(OH)₃.6H₂O. The Na⁺ cations also show octahedral coordination geometry and are coordinated by OH^- ions and water molecules; six Na⁺ cations are coordinated by five hydroxyl groups and one water molecule, while the other three are coordinated by four hydroxyl groups and two water molecules. These NaO₆ octahedra are linked through common edges, incorporating the AlO₆ octahedra, to yield a three-dimensional network.
