Tris(2,2'-bipyridyl-N,N')zinc(II) Thiosulfate Heptahydrate

The structure of the title compound, [Zn(C₁₀H₈N₂)₃]S₂O₃.7H₂O, consists of cations, Zn(bipy)₃²⁺ (where bipy = bipyridine), and anions, S₂O₃²⁻. There is an unusually short S...S contact of 3.361 (3) Å between the anions and a complex hydrogen-bonding scheme involving the seven molecules of water of crystallization.
