The title compound, C43H34ClPS, is an unexpected reaction product that formed in the benzyl­ation of a dinaphthophos­phepine sulfide after addition of dichloro­methane in the presence of a strong base. It contains the rare functional group 2-chloro­vinyl in an E configuration, with C-C bond lengths of 1.471 (2) and 1.321 (2) Å, and a C-Cl bond length of 1.725 (2) Å.

Special details top

Geometry. All e.s.d.'s (except the e.s.d. in the dihedral angle between two l.s. planes) are estimated using the full covariance matrix.
