The crystal structures of the complexes of 1,4-dicyanobenzene with silver(I) trifluoromethanesulphonate catena-poly[{μ-aqua-O'O)-bis[trifluoromethanesulphonato-O)silver(I)]}-di-μ-(1,4-dicyanobenzene-N:N')], [Ag2(CF3O3S)2(C8H4N2)2(H2O)]n, and catena-poly[[diμ(aqua-O,O)disilver(I)]-μ-(1,4-benzenedinitrile-N:N')bis(hexafluorophosphate)][Ag2C8H4N2)2(H2O)2]n-(PF62n, show that irrespective of the counterion, the basic network that is formed is a chain structure. Water molecules located in the unit cell of these structures bridge a pair of adjacent chains by coordinating to silver(I) resulting in ladder-type motifs.
