The title compound, a new magnesium sodium phosphate, was prepared by hydrothermal methods. The structure is a monophosphate and contains three kinds of Mg-O polyhedra which form two types of infinite chains parallel to the [001] direction. These chains are connected with PO4 tetrahedra by corner-sharing to form a framework. Na atoms occupy the interstices of the framework. The 1/3 substructure appears along the [010] direction.
