(+)-1-Phenyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline with an [α]25D value of +47.58° in CCl4 (c 2.83) has been synthesized and the crystal structure of its hydrochloride, C15H16N+.Cl−, determined by X-ray methods. The anomalous dispersion effect indicates that the absolute configuration is S.
