10-Ethyl-3-nitrophenothiazine

The title compound, C₁₄H₁₂N₂O₂S (ENP), is a precursor in the synthesis of antipsychotic drugs based on 3-nitrophenothiazines. The structure analysis confirms the expected 3-nitro derivative. The nitro group flattens the tricycle; the dihedral angle between the phenyl rings is 157.2 (1)°, compared with a value of 135.2 (1)° in the non-nitrated compound.
