The crystal structure of triperchloratoytterbium(III) monohydrate, Yb(ClO4)3.H2O, has been determined. In this coordination compound, bidendate and tridendate perchlorato groups form a channelled three-dimensional network. The eightfold coordination of ytterbium is completed by one strongly bound water molecule lying inside the channels.
