Die Kristallstruktur des einwertigen Kupferazids, CuN₃

CuN₃ belongs to the space group C_4h⁶-I4₁/a with cell dimensions a = 8.65₃ ±  0.01 A., c = 5.59₄ ±  0.01 A., c/a = 0.646. The observed density is 3.26 g.cm.^-3, giving Z = 8 and a calculated density of 3.34 g.cm.^-3 The atomic positions are: 8 Cu at (d); 8 N_I at (c); and 16 N_II at (f) with parameters x = 0.077, y = 0.173, z = 0.250. The structure consists of Cu ions and of N₃ groups which are arranged in chains in the direction of the body diagonal of the cell. The structure is not related to any known standard type.
