Succinyl Oleanolic Acid

The title compound, 3-[(2-carboxyethyl)carbonyloxy]olean-12-en-28-oic acid, C₃₄H₅₂O₆, was synthesized as a derivative of oleanolic acid in order to improve its solubility and bioavailability. It has been used as an anti-inflammatory and antihepatitis drug in east Asia. This study reveals that the succinyl moiety is equatorial to the six-membered ring to which it is attached. The molecules are packed in layers in the crystal.
