A complex pattern of opposite and antiparallel periodic poled domains in LiNbO3 single crystals has been studied by X-ray topography. The antiparallel periodic poled domains appear in alternating crescent-shape domains where the measured Li/Nb ratio is higher.

Limited X-ray and section topography have been used to characterize defects in both boron-doped homoepitaxial films and high-pressure high-temperature 1b (001) diamond substrates. Lattice mismatch generates, at the interface, two orthogonal systems of misfit dislocations in the form of half-loops propagating from the interface defects, particularly threading dislocations and growth sector boundaries.

(0{\bar 1}11) twin boundaries of Y-cut synthetically grown quartz crystals are studied by means of X-ray section topographs. The images show an anomalous contrast and no extinction condition can be found. Simulated images demonstrate that the twin boundaries are not simple planar defects. They may be described as lamellae of a non-diffracting material. Their thickness is of the order of 15 μm and, within these boundaries, the Fourier components of the dielectric susceptibility are drastically reduced by one order of magnitude.
