The acyl-homoserinelactone synthase EsaI has been crystallized in the space group P4₃, with unit-cell parameters a = b = 66.40, c = 47.33 Å. Multiple-wavelength anomalous diffraction using rhenium, a novel MAD atom, provided phases; the perrhenate-binding sites were identified in the model at 2.5 Å.
