In the title compound, C₈H₁₁NO₂S, the aldehyde group is approximately coplanar with the thio­phene ring [maximum deviation = 0.023 (2) Å]. In the crystal, mol­ecules are linked by O—H...O hydrogen bonds into supra­molecular chains propagating along the a-axis direction.
