The title compound, K8[{WVIO2(SO4)2}2(μ-SO4)2], precipitated from a melt of tungsten trioxide and potassium sulfate in potassium pyrosulfate. The WVI coordination sphere in the independent K4[WVIO2(SO4)3] moiety is completed by inversion symmetry, resulting in a dimer with two bridging sulfate ligands and a unit cell with two dimeric units.
