Bis(piperazinium) di-μ-chloro-bis­[tetra­chloro­bismuthate(III)] trihydrate

The title salt, (C₄H₁₂N₂)₂[Bi₂Cl₁₀]·3H₂O, was prepared by reaction of bismuth trichloride and piperazine in a hydro­chloric acid medium. It consists of piperazinium dications and dimeric [Bi₂Cl₁₀]⁴⁻ tetra­anions, the latter with twofold rotation symmetry, together with water of crystallization. Hydrogen-bond inter­actions, including N—H...O, N—H...Cl and O—H...Cl inter­actions, stabilize the crystal structure.
