Poly[[diaqua­tris(μ₂-4,4′-bipyridine-κ²N,N′)tetra­kis­(phenyl­acetato-κO)dinickel(II)] dihydrate]

The polymeric title mol­ecule, {[Ni₂(C₈H₇O₂)₄(C₁₀H₈N₂)₃(H₂O)₂]·2H₂O}_n, lies on a center of symmetry at the mid-point of the C_pyridine—C_pyridine bond of one of the two 4,4′-bipyridine mol­ecules that link the adjacent aqua­nickel(II)–dicarboxyl­ate units into a linear chain. The other 4,4′-bipyridine mol­ecule connects adjacent chains into a square (C₁₀H₈N₂)₃Ni₂ grid. The ladder-like layer structure is disordered in all the organic groups bonded to the metal atom; the uncoordinated water mol­ecules inter­act within the layers through hydrogen bonds.
