In the title compound, C22H15BrN2, the phenanthrene moiety is slightly skewed. The dihedral angle between the phenanthro[9,10-d]imidazole mean plane and the benzene ring is 37.78 (6)°. The crystal packing is stabilized mainly by aromatic interactions, though a weak intermolecular C—HN hydrogen bond is also observed.
