2-(2,3-Dimethoxy­phen­yl)chroman-4-one

The title compound, C₁₇H₁₆O₄, was synthesized by the reaction of 2,3-dimethoxy­benzaldehyde and 2-hydroxy­acetophenone in 20% NaOH solution for 2 h, followed by crystallization from eth­yl acetate. The pyrone ring adopts a chair conformation.

(E)-1-(2-Hydroxy­phen­yl)-3-(3,4,5-trimethoxy­phen­yl)prop-2-en-1-one

The title compound, C₁₈H₁₈O₅, was prepared by the condensation of 2-hydroxyacetophenone with 3,4,5-trimeth­oxy­benzaldehyde. The trimethoxyphenyl and hydroxy­phen­yl rings of the chalcone system are approximately coplanar.
