The title phenyl­hydrazine derivative, C₁₆H₁₆N₂O₄, has a crystallographically imposed centre of symmetry. Except for the methyl group, all non-H atoms are almost coplanar (r.m.s. deviation = 0.0095 Å). Intra­molecular O—H...N hydrogen bonds are observed, generating S(6) graph-set ring motifs.
