In the title compound, {[Zn(C16H16N4O2)(H2O)4](NO3)2}n, the bidentate ligand (2E)-N,N′-bis(pyridin-4-ylmethyl)but-2-enediamide coordinates in the axial positions of the octahedral zinc centres to form infinite one-dimensional coordination polymeric chains. In the crystal structure, O—H...O and N—H...O hydrogen bonds link these chains into a three-dimensional framework.

In the centrosymmetric title compound, C16H16N4O2·2H2O, the water molecules donate two hydrogen bonds and accept one each, with O...O and O...N distances of 2.7498 (13) and 2.8152 (13) Å, respectively, and with an N...O distance of 2.7368 (13) Å. In the crystal structure, molecular channels are formed which are are occupied by water.

The enantiomerically pure title compound, C18H20O2, crystallizes with one molecule in the asymmetric unit. The packing arrangement is significantly different from that of its racemate. Linear hydrogen-bonded chains are aligned along the [100] direction. Edge-to-face π–π interactions occur between adjacent hydrogen-bonded columns.

In the title compound, C20H24N2O4, the quinoxalinediyl bridging group separates two β-diketone groups, which are found to be in a pseudo-trans configuration. The major contributing packing forces are π–π interactions and weak but influential C—H...O hydrogen bonds.

Alternate molecules of N,N′-bis(pyridin-4-ylmethyl)succinamide and terephthalic acid, each of which is located about a centre of inversion, are linked by strong O—H...N hydrogen bonds to form strands in the title compound, C16H18N4O2·C8H6O4. In addition, strong N—H...O hydrogen bonds between the N,N′-bis(pyridin-4-ylmethyl)succinamide molecules of adjacent strands link the latter to form sheets.

The title compound, C21H26NO2S, was obtained during the synthesis of the thiol derivative of Dianin's compound. Unlike Dianin's compound and the thiol derivatives, the title compound revealed no strong hydrogen-bonding interactions.

The centrosymmetric title compound, C16H32N8O4, crystallizes one half-molecule in the asymmetric unit. Single crystals were grown from water and, even though the compound contains hydrogen-bonding groups, no water molecules of crystallization were found. Two of the four pendant arms form intramolecularly hydrogen bonds to preorganize the compound into a shape similar to that required for ligation.
