The carboxylate dianion in the polymeric title compound, [Zn(C9H6O5)(H2O)2]n, which is disordered over a centre of inversion, links diaquazinc(II) units into a zigzag chain; the chains interact through hydrogen bonds to form layers. The six-coordinate metal atom lies on a special position of site symmetry 2.

Excluding H atoms, the title molecule, C12H15O3N3, is approximately planar. Glide-related molecules are linked by intermolecular O—HO hydrogen bonds into a chain structure running along [101]. The crystal packing is further stabilized by π–π interactions.

The SrII atom in the title compound, {[Sr(C14H9O3)(H2O)2]·H2O}n, is chelated by the carboxyl and hydroxyl O atoms of two anions, and is coordinated by two water molecules that function in a bridging mode. The eight-coordinate configuration arises from additional interaction with the carboxyl O atoms which are already involved in chelation in adjacent molecules. The geometry is intermediate between dodecahedral and square antiprismatic in the linear chain structure.

The dicarboxylate dianion in the polymeric title compound, [Cd(C10H8O3S)(H2O)2]n, links diaquacadmium(II) units into a zigzag chain. Adjacent chains are linked by hydrogen bonds into a layered structure. The coordination geometry of the Cd atom is octahedral, with Cd—OCOO distances of 2.395 (3) and 2.359 (3) Å, and a Cd—Oaqua distance of 2.193 (4) Å. The Cd atom lies on a twofold rotation axis.
