The title compound, C30H50O, was isolated from the Chinese medicinal plant Aster tataricus L., which has been used for the relief of coughs and as an expectorant. In the molecule, a tetracyclic ring system, with all six-membered rings in chair conformations, is linked to a C6 side chain.

In the title compound, [CuCl(C12H8N2)2](C7H5O5S)·H2O, copper(II) is coordinated by four N atoms and one chloride anion in a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry. The Cu-N bond lengths are in the range 1.992 (3)-2.121 (3) Å, while the Cu-Cl distance is 2.3046 (11) Å.
