The mol­ecules of the title compound, C₁₃H₁₄O₄, the condensation product of vanillin and acetyl­acetone, are hydrogen bonded into a linear chain arising from interaction between the hydroxy group of one mol­ecule and the acetyl group of an adjacent mol­ecule.

The mol­ecules of the title compound, C₁₆H₁₂O₄, are linked by hydrogen bonds involving the two hydr­oxy and carbon­yl O atoms, forming a three-dimensional network.
