In the title compound, [CoCl2(C11H10N2)], the CoII atom is four-coordinated in a distorted tetrahedral geometry by two N atoms from a 6-methyl-2,2′-bipyridine ligand and two terminal Cl atoms. Intermolecular C—HCl hydrogen bonds and π–π stacking interactions between the pyridine rings [centroid–centroid distance = 3.745 (3) Å] are present in the crystal.
