The title compound, C8H8O7, was synthesized from tartaric acid and acetic anhydride. The structure is stabilized by an inter­molecular hydrogen bond from an H atom of a meth­yl group to a carbon­yl O atom on the five-membered ring.

The title compound, C15H17NO2, is a product of a Mannich reaction involving 2-naphthol, formaldehyde and morpholine. The morpholine ring has a chair conformation and the crystal structure is stabilized by an intra­molecular O—H...N hydrogen bond linking the naphthol OH group and the morpholine N atom.
