In the title complex, [Zn(C17H11N6O)Cl(C3H7NO)], the ZnII atom has a distorted square-pyramidal coordination formed by one Cl, two O and two N atoms. In the crystal structure, intermolecular N—HCl hydrogen bonds link molecules into centrosymmetric dimers, which are further assembled by π–π interactions [centroid–centroid distances = 3.809 (3) and 3.834 (3) Å] into layers parallel to the ab plane. The crystal packing exhibits also weak intermolecular C—HCl interactions.

In the crystal structure of the title compound, C28H21Cl2N, π–π interactions link pairs of molecules into centrosymmetric dimers with a distance of 3.756 (3) Å between the centroids of the pyridine rings. Weak intermolecular C—HCl hydrogen bonds further link these dimers into chains propagating along [01]. The pyridine ring forms dihedral angles of 21.52 (1) and 55.87 (2)°, respectively, with the phenyl ring and the 4-chlorophenyl ring.
