Cerous Silver Nitrate, Ag₆Ce(NO₃)₉

The title compound was synthesized from a nitric acid solution of silver and cerium(III) nitrates at 333 K. The structure is built from irregular icosahedral [Ce(NO₃)₆]^3- anions and Ag⁺ cations. The O atoms around one of the two independent Ag atoms form a distorted bicapped trigonal prism, while a non-definite polyhedron is observed around the other. Two types of nitrate groups ensure the continuity and give a three-dimensional aspect to the crystal structure.
