metal-organic compounds
The crystal structure of the title compound, [FeCl(C6Cl2O4)(H2O)3].5H2O, shows it to be a a monomeric iron(III) complex with the metal ion chelated by the dianion of chloranilic acid (2,5-dichloro-3,6-dihydroxy-2,5-cyclohexadiene-1,4-dione). The octahedral coordination environment is completed by a chloride ion and three water molecules which are in a mer arrangement. Extensive hydrogen bonding occurs between the complex and lattice water molecules.
