Dicyclopentadienyl Complexes of Samarium(III): [Sm([eta]⁵-C₅H₄SiMe₃)₂([mu]-Cl)]₂

The title compound, di-[mu]-chloro-bis[([eta]⁵-trimethylsilylcyclopentadienyl)samarium(III)], [SmCl₂(C₈H₁₃Si)₄], which has been characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, is isostructural with its ytterbium analogue. The geometrical parameters of the lanthanide atoms are compared in the two compounds. Results and conclusions reported for [Yb([eta]⁵-C₅H₄SiMe₃)₂([mu]-Cl)]₂ are entirely corroborated by the present structure analysis.
