In nuclear spectroscopy by crystal diffraction, peak sharpness and low count rate make the jitter of the goniometer angle a limit to resolution. A device that uses the photon detection to trigger the reading of the angle allows information to be preserved, notwithstanding noise. A Bayesian analysis is applied to estimate the centre of the diffraction peak, without binning the recorded angles.
