The centrosymmetric 4,4′-azinodimethyldipyridinium cations, C12H12N42+, are planar and lie in planes parallel to the c axis. There is a strong intermolecular hydrogen bond, N1—HO4i [2.896 (3) Å; symmetry code: (i) −x, 1 − y, −z] and a number of weaker hydrogen bonds between the C atoms of the pyridine rings and the O atoms of the perchlorate anions [3.234–3.246 (4) Å].
