Absolute Configuration of 6-O-p-Bromobenzoylsalvileucolide Methyl Ester

The absolute configuration of the title compound, methyl 6-(4-bromobenzoyloxy)-5-[5-(2,5-dihydro-3-methyl- 5-oxo-2-furanyl)-3-methyl-3-pentenyl]-6-hydroxy- 1,4a,6-trimethyldecahydronaphthalene1-carboxylate, C₃₃H₄₃BrO₇, a derivative of the sesterterpenoid salvileucolide methyl ester isolated from the aerial parts of two Iranian Salvia species, has been determined at 173 K. The compound belongs to the normal series (10R) and the configuration at C(16) is also R.
