α-(2H-1-Benzopyran-2-ylidene)-α-(methylthio)acetonitrile, a Chromylidene Acetonitrile

The title compound, C₁₂H₉NOS, is the E derivative, the major product obtained in the reaction between salicylaldehyde and β-bromo-α-(methylthio)crotononitrile. The molecular packing involves van der Waals contacts only, the shortest intermolecular distances between between the O and N atoms of one molecule and the methyl group H atoms of the closest neighbouring molecules.
