The title compound has been synthesized by solid-state reaction. Its structure is isomorphous with other Li pyroxenes and is composed of infinite isolated chains of edge-sharing VO6 octahedra linked together by corner-sharing SiO4 tetrahedra. These form a three-dimensional framework within which the Li+ ions occupy a highly distorted octahedron.
