The structure of naturally occurring pseudouridine, 5-β-D-ribofuranosyl-2,4(1H,3H)-pyrimidinedione, C9H12N2O6, was determined by direct methods. The asymmetric unit contains two independent pseudouridine molecules, with anti orientation of the base with respect to the ribose in both molecules, but with different sugar-ring conformations. The crystal structure is characterized by an extensive hydrogen-bonding network.
