L-Valyl-L-alanine, C8H16N2O3, crystallizes in space group P61. The side chains aggregate into large hydrophobic columns parallel to the hexagonal axis, with conspicuous empty central channels. The three-dimensional hydrogen-bond pattern is unique among dipeptide structures.
