X-ray pole-figure measurements traditionally employ β-filtered radiation. The remaining continuous spectrum can introduce serious artifacts in strong textures. It is shown that spurious peaks form in textures of epitactic YBCO films and that background determination may be ambiguous. These difficulties can be avoided by using monochromatic radiation with a graphite monochromator between the X-ray tube and the specimen.
