The Al atoms are six-coordinate and exist as monomeric [Al(OH)6]3- anions in the title compound, Na9[Al(OH)6]2(OH)3.6H2O. The Na+ cations also show octahedral coordination geometry and are coordinated by OH- ions and water molecules; six Na+ cations are coordinated by five hydroxyl groups and one water molecule, while the other three are coordinated by four hydroxyl groups and two water molecules. These NaO6 octahedra are linked through common edges, incorporating the AlO6 octahedra, to yield a three-dimensional network.
