The restrained least-squares refinement procedure of Hendrickson & Konnert [Hendrickson (1985). Methods in Enzymology, Vol. 115, edited by H. W. Wyckoff, C. H. W. Hirs & S. N. Timasheff, pp. 252-270. Orlando: Academic Press] has been implemented on a Digital Equipment Corporation VAX 11/780 equipped with a 30 MFLOP (million floating point operations per second) Numerix MARS-432 array processor. The modified program executes in only one twentieth of the time required for the unmodified version on the same VAX and an estimated half of the time required for execution on an IBM 3081.
