The thermal expansion of tensor of benzalazine (dibenzalhydrazine, benzylideneazine, C14H12N2) was calculated from the changes of the lattice constants with temperature, as measured with X-ray diffraction. The principle components of the thermal expansion tensor at 293 K are αa = 19.6 (7), αb = 38 (2) and αc = 167 (4) × 10−6 K−1.
