From high-temperature X-ray powder photographs a new modification of In2S3, called γ-In2S3, which is stable only above 754 °C, has been found. Substitution of 5 to 10% of In by either As or Sb stabilizes this modification [γ-In2S3(As), γ-In2S3(Sb)] at room temperature. The most probable space group is Pm1. The nearly identical X-ray powder diagrams (listed) lead to a = 3.800 (1) and c = 9.044 (5) Å and to a = 3.831 (1) and c = 9.049 (5) Å respectively.
