When a hot stage is used with a two-circle diffractometer the range of 2θ angles available is often restricted to the positive side of the main beam. The d spacings of single crystals have to be calculated from the separation of two reflections. The best choice of reflections for maximum precision is discussed. Residual errors due to speciment tilt can be eliminated by comparing values obtained at room temperature with and without the hot stage.
