The question of the relative arrangement of components of the Kα doublet line in the diffraction patterns of polycrystals is discussed. A characteristic point of the line profile is established, the abscissa of which is equal to two thirds of the doublet α1–α2 separation from the maximum of the Kα1 component curve; its abscissa does not depend on component curve parameters. On annealed and cold-worked copper samples it is shown that the characteristic point abscissa may be used as a criterion for the correct resolution of the doublet line and for finding the influence of the different fine structure factors on the line profile.
