Substances which are liquid at room temperature, and extremely air sensitive substances, can be investigated in a modified Guinier type camera at temperatures down to -1190°C. The specimen temperature is maintained with high accuracy, hydrogen cooled by liquid air or by liquid nitrogen serving as a coolant. After warming to room temperature the hydrogen fills the interior of the camera and thus reduces diffuse background scattering.
